Drone Day

Join us for a day of classroom and hands-on training for sUAS. You will earn both your CAP Recreational sUAS Pilot and sUAS Technician rating:

Date: Sat, February 10th, 0900-1600

Location: Minnesota Wing Headquarters, 6275 Crossman Lane, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076

UOD:

  • Cadets: ABUs
  • SMs: Working Uniform (ABUs, Blue BDU's, polo and grey pants)

Bring: Permission slip (cadets), FAA Trust Certificate, lunch, water bottle, CAP ID, 101 card, note taking gear, drone (if you have one), cold weather jacket and hat. This is largely an indoor event, but we might spend a small amount of time outdoors.

Prerequisites (See Job Aid - Complete BEFORE Class):

Must complete in order to fly:

  • FAA Trust Test (certificate MUST be uploaded to eServices by 07FEB24, see job aid)
  • Statement of Understanding (MUST be done in eServices by 07FEB24, see job aid)

Must complete before doing a check flight to become an sUAS Recreational pilot:

  • CAPT 70-1 General Flight Exam in AXIS
  • CAPR 70-1- sUAS Flight Exam in AXIS

Must complete in order to work on the sUAS Technician Qualification:

  • Commander Approval for Familiarization and Preparatory Training
  • Commander Approval for Prerequisites
Additional Training - Required to earn sUAS Technician (can be done before or after the Drone Day):
  • CAP General Emergency Services – In AXIS
  • CAP Aircrew Professionalism Course – in AXIS
  • CAP Test 117 ES Continuing Education Part 2 – In AXIS
  • ICUT (Radio training) – in AXIS and work with your unit’s comm officer to complete.
