Activities
Please use the drop down menu or the following internal links to check out some of the programs that we have to offer for both Senior Members and Cadets.
We strive to maintain an active schedule in our Wing, Units, and in our Community. Some of the following events are designed to train and offer leadership opportunities for the Cadets but our Senior Members volunteers are integral to the success of our programs and we have many opportunities for Senior Members to participate as well.
Aerospace Fling
Minnesota Wing Aerospace Fling is an intense day of Aerospace just for CAP members, their families, and friends! Squadrons will be asked to participate with flight line and vehicle marshaling, general support, and display booths so our cadets can get involved and share their aerospace knowledge.
BlackCAP
BlackCAP Emergency Services College is a place for all members of Minnesota Wing and beyond to learn ground and mission base ES skills and cadet programs with some creative spin. Activities include ELT and missing person searches, radio communications, UAS training (Drones), GTM3 training, and more!
Cadet Competition
For the best and brightest of each squadron MN Cadet Programs hosts a Cadet Competition where color guards from around the state compete for the title of Minnesota Color Guard. But it's not just drill! Uniforms, ceremonies, and general CAP knowledge are tested to determine the best color guard in the state!
Encampment
Touted as the "Most Influential Week in a Cadet's Career," this 8-day activity provides new cadets an in-depth introduction to the program. Attending an Encampment is a requirement before promoting to C/2d Lt, and Minnesota's Encampment is among the best in the nation.
Ground Team Academy
The Ground Team Academy (GTA) is open to all members with at least a General Emergency Services Qualification who have completed FEMA's IS 100 and IS 700. Those wishing to learn Base Staff positions or refine their Ground Team Leader skills should apply for staff. Registration may be found in the MNWG Intranet Activity Registration System. The school's goal is for each person to complete one Emergency Services training level by the weekend's end.
Minnesota Leadership Academy - MLA
Minnesota Leadership Academy is an activity unique to the Minnesota Wing. MN Cadet Programs provides a weekend activity over Minnesota Educator Academy (MEA) weekend each year (usually in October). While Minnesota schools close for a teacher conference, CAP cadets learn leadership in one of three schools based on rank and experience.
National Cadet Activities
National Cadet Special Activities (NCSAs) are a collection of nearly 50 different activities nationwide that Civil Air Patrol cadets can attend after they have completed Encampment. NCSAs are designed to give cadets direct hands on experience with various aspects of the Civil Air Patrol program and to explore civilian and military aerospace careers, provide flight training, leadership development, engineering and technology, and enhance emergency services skills.
Volleyball Competition
Historically hosted in St Cloud is the annual Volleyball competition, a friendly match-off between squadrons where physical aptitude and skill are put to the test! Each participating squadron provides a team (or two!) and competes to win.
Winter Survival
Each winter, Minnesota Wing organizes a Winter Survival Weekend! Temperatures regularly drop below zero, and cadets use skills they've learned to survive and thrive for a few nights outdoors.
Minnesota Wing has many recurring activities each year in the cadet program. One signature of all these programs is that they're led by cadets! With senior executive leadership, cadets have the opportunity to teach their peers, practicing their own leadership in the process.
